Prep School

Prep School – Key Stage 1

Years 1 and 2 children follow the National Curriculum which has a two year rolling programme. This allows pupils a chance to work at a level above their age range, where necessary. We believe that for children to reach their full potential they should have flexible access to a range of education, not just to be set in a rigid timetable. Each child’s progress and curriculum levels are regularly monitored and weekly records are kept of the children’s targets and attainments.

Subjects

All subjects are taught within the infant department, Literacy, Numeracy, French, History, Geography, ICT, RS, Music, Singing, Art and Sport and the children enjoy a wide curriculum.

At St Crispin’s School we follow the government’s two year rolling curriculum and our Year 3 and 4 class work together as do Year 5 and 6. This allows pupils a chance to work at a level above their age range and also allows for catch up where necessary. We believe that for children to reach their full potential they should have flexible access to a range of education, and should not just follow a rigid timetable. However our day is firmly structured with a familiar routine for all children.

Prep School – Key Stage 2

Children are subject taught from Year 3; English, Maths, Science, History and Geography, alongside Art and Design, Music, Singing, Drama, ICT, Swimming and PE sessions. All subjects are taught by the specialist subject teachers and our children are known personally by name to our staff. Children in the Junior School work towards the Government’s National Curriculum tests set for pupils in Years 3, 4, 5 and in Year 6. School exams are held twice yearly in the Autumn and Summer Term thus preparing them for formal examination at GCSE level.

Pastoral Care

Each class has its own form teacher who is responsible for academic achievements and wellbeing. Each child’s progress and curriculum levels are regularly monitored by all staff and in all subjects and weekly records are kept of the children’s targets and attainments, to allow us to make sure that each child is always meeting their full potential.

Sport

Children from Year 3 upwards follow a full sporting programme with one indoor and one outdoor activity a week, plus weekly swimming sessions. Sports include: rugby, football, netball, rounders, uni-hock, fitness, dance, badminton, basketball, swimming, tennis, cricket, athletics and cross country. They join in with the secondary school for their games lessons and all lessons are taught formally with the emphasis on enjoyment, involvement and improving ability.
